This is the shocking moment a hungry wild elephant broke into a home to steal mangoes.

The ravenous beast wandered out of the forest and rummaged through the balcony of a house in Sa Kaeo, Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the jumbo using its trunk to grab a bag of mangoes before munching on the fruits on May 5.

Startled by the noise, the homeowner opened the door to investigate and was stunned to find the elephant just outside. He quickly shut the door, fearing for his safety.

The filmer said the pachyderm did not damage the porch or any belonging,s and it simply came for the mangoes.

He added: 'Wild elephants have been coming near the house frequently to search for food.'

Elephants are known for their voracious appetite. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) found need to eat up to 150kg of food per day - the equivalent of 375 tins of baked beans

Conservationists in Thailand say that wild elephants - up to 3,500 of them - have even developed a taste for human food and prefer to rummage through homes and vehicles for snacks, instead of the bland leaves they find in the forest.
