A Waymo driverless car was caught up in a multi-vehicle collision in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The accident left several cars "severely damaged" onlookers said."

Aditya Krishnan, 58, an attorney in Paradise Valley, filmed the aftermath of the incident on May 7, at around 9am, while on a coffee run.

"It appeared like the cars were making a turn and that Waymo car may have stopped inadvertently," he said, but acknowledged he did not witness the actual collision and the cause has yet to be established."

"When I was going [for coffee], there was no accident. And when I returned, there was a multi-car accident with the Waymo car in front."

Krishnan pointed out several concerns regarding the aftermath of such accidents.

"Who would actually make witness statements? How do you fill out insurance claims for a Waymo car when there's nobody in it?" he asked."

"Does the Waymo show its registration? Does it fill out a form?"

This accident comes as autonomous vehicle companies continue to expand their operations in the Phoenix metropolitan area, where Waymo has been operating its driverless taxi service.

Waymo representatives and the Scottsdale Arizona Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
