This is the stunning moment a meteor whizzed across the night sky in Spain.

The brilliant fireball lit up the skies over Valencia and Alicante on May 14, around 9:02 pm UTC.

The fiery spectacle was captured from Sant Mateu, Castellon, offering a clear view of the phenomenon. Stargazers reported seeing the shooting star blazing with high intensity as it streaked through the atmosphere.

Further south, the breathtaking bolide was also observed from Benamaurel in Granada. Though its magnitude appeared weaker due to the distance, the flash at the end of its trail remained visible.

In Daya Vieja, Alicante, the falling star was captured in full colour. The display revealed a striking green hue during its brightest moments, a typical effect of ablation caused by mafic minerals rich in magnesium and iron.

Meteors are created when meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, causing friction that heats the meteoroid and the surrounding air. This process causes the meteoroid to melt and vaporise, creating a bright trail of light.

Spain, located in the southern part of Europe, has many areas with clear skies and relatively low light pollution, particularly in rural regions. These conditions make for excellent viewing conditions for celestial events like this.
