This is the spectacular moment a meteor lit up the night sky over Alicante and Valencia in Spain.

Footage shows the bright shooting star illuminating the horizon on Thursday at 5:09 am local time.

Reports said the meteor entered Earth's atmosphere at an astonishing speed of 105,000 km/h. As it burned up, it produced brilliant blue flashes caused by magnesium and iron in its silicate composition.

The fireball was visible from several locations, including Daya Vieja, Benamaurel in Granada, and Barx-La Visteta in Valencia.

Meteors are created when meteoroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speeds, causing friction that heats the meteoroid and the surrounding air. This process causes the meteoroid to melt and vaporise, creating a bright trail of light.

Spain, located in the southern part of Europe, has many areas with clear skies and relatively low light pollution, particularly in rural regions. These conditions make for excellent viewing conditions for celestial events like this.
