BANGKOK — Two infant orangutans are now in protective care after authorities disrupted a transnational wildlife trafficking network operating between Indonesia and Thailand, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reported.

Last week, Thai national Tannasit Chotraweeamornchai was arrested at a Bangkok gas station while allegedly attempting to sell the animals illegally. One orangutan is approximately a year old, the other just a month. Both are now in the custody of Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement supported the successful international operation, highlighting the ongoing global effort to combat illegal wildlife trade.
