Prison break leaves three guards injured in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment inmates broke out of prison leaving three guards injured in Indonesia.
The prisoners reportedly tricked the wardens by asking permission to visit the registration room during visiting hours at the Class II B Correctional Institution in Nabire, on June 2.
An officer opened the door but was immediately set upon by the violent convicts.
Disturbing CCTV footage shows one inmate rampaging through the hallway as he slashed the stunned guards with a machete. He then bolted for the exit with a stream of prisoners running behind him.
Three officers were injured in the jailbreak. Two of them suffered serious wounds to their hands from the machete, while another suffered minor injuries
Edi Saputra, head of the Nabire Prison, said: 'The Penitentiary is still investigating the origin of the sharp weapons used by the prisoners in the escape. We do not yet know for sure where the machetes came from. It is suspected that they were hidden under clothes during visiting hours.
'Most likely this was planned. They took advantage of the gap when two prisoners asked for permission to go to the registration room. When the door was opened, a group of prisoners immediately attacked from behind.'
Some of the escaped inmates were reportedly part of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) - a separatist group branded as terrorists by the Indonesian government.
Discarded prison clothes were said to have been found in the hillside behind the prison.
Police Chief Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, spokesman for Operation Cartenz's Peace, said: 'We urge people in Nabire and its surrounding areas not to panic. If you see or know information related to the whereabouts of prisoners, especially those affiliated with the KKB, immediately report it to the nearest station or call the police hotline.'
