VARIOUS OF MAKESHIFT TENTS AND DISPLACED SOMALI CHILDREN IN CAMPMOGADISHU, SOMALIA - JUNE 03: Thousands of Somalis displaced by ongoing conflict and famine are enduring harsh conditions in makeshift camps on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu. Years of armed clashes between al-Shabaab militants and government forces, along with prolonged drought, have triggered widespread displacement. Families have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety, shelter, and basic necessities. Anadolu footage showed the dire living conditions in several camps, including Al-Hidaya, which houses nearly 5,000 people. The camps lack essential infrastructure, such as electricity, water, and sanitation. Residents live in overcrowded, unsanitary tents made from tarpaulin and plastic sheeting. Clean water access remains one of the most pressing challenges. With no local sources, many walk long distances to collect water in plastic containers. Polluted surroundings further increase the risk of disease. Unemployment is widespread, and residents depend on charitable donations for food, clothing, and clean water. Health care services are nearly nonexistent, leaving communities vulnerable to diseases such as typhoid, hepatitis, dysentery, and cholera. Education is also scarce. Children in the camps have no access to schools or learning materials. Millions of internally displaced Somalis continue to hope for lasting peace and urgent humanitarian aid as they endure worsening conditions. Somalia has long been plagued by insecurity, with the terrorist groups al-Shabaab and ISIS (Daesh) posing the most serious threats. Al-Shabaab has been fighting the Somali government for over 16 years, and they frequently target government officials and military personnel.
