Elderly man builds DIY cable car to reach 5th floor after growing tired of climbing stairs
Recently, an elderly man's creation in Huludao, Liaoning, has drawn widespread attention. Faced with the challenge of climbing to the fifth floor in an old apartment building with no elevator, he built his own cable car-style lift.
The man, Wang Rishang, is 72 years old and a retired engineer. He had a strong interest in mechanical engineering from a young age. As he aged, going up and down five flights of stairs became increasingly difficult. Given the age of the residential complex, installing an elevator was both technically challenging and costly. So, he decided to put his expertise to use and build a personal cable car.
Mr. Wang explained that the cable car took him a year to construct and cost around 7,000 to 8,000 yuan (approximately \$1,000). He carefully designed it to avoid interfering with neighbours or passing vehicles. He also noted that he has already applied for a patent for his invention.
