Adam, the only surviving child of Gazan Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, sent to Italy for treatment
SHOTLIST: GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE (JUNE 10, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF INJURIES AND CLOSE UP OF ADEM AL-NAJJAR, ONLY SURVIVING SON OF DR ALAA AL-NAJJAR 2. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ADAM AL-NAJJAR SAYING: “I am Adam Al-Najjar. Today, Allah willing, I am traveling to receive treatment abroad. I hope, may Allah heal and cure me, and may I return safely. May Allah get us through this safely. A small rocket was fired at us… I saw the ring of fire… but Allah got us through it safely. I may have lost consciousness… but then the second missile hit. Everything was destroyed – the whole house, my siblings… my father is a martyr. May Allah have mercy on him. We kissed him goodbye from the depths of our hearts. I was taken to the emergency hospital. I didn’t hear anything after that. I was rescued hours later in the middle of the city. I got out with our strength. May Allah let us get through this in peace. I am traveling today. My hands were supported with wires. Thank Allah, they are trying to fix my injuries. The pain is very severe. The damage is in my left hand. There’s a problem with the nerves – I can’t feel my fingers. There’s still a lot of pain. The doctors said I need a graft surgery. This cannot be done in Gaza. It must be done in Europe. Italy accepted to receive me – thank God. I’ll go to Milan, Allah willing. They welcomed me – thank God. Thank you to everyone who supported me. We are all injured and hurt, but we hope for recovery.” 3. VARIOUS OF ADEM HUGGING HIS RELATIVES, SITTING ON FRONT SEAT OF AMBULANCE WITH SMALL PLASTIC BAG, BEING FED BY HIS COUSIN, SEHER EN-NAJJAR 4. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SEHER AL-NAJJAR SAYING: “Adam is a brave boy, a hero, even though he lost his siblings – nine of them – and his father. Dr. Hamdi said Adam suffered severe injuries due to an Israeli airstrike, part of the mass extermination of families. Adam is the only survivor from his family. Dr. Alani added that Adam has serious injuries in his left hand – nerve damage and loss of sensation in his fingers. The pain is intense and ongoing. He needs a nerve graft, which cannot be done in Gaza. It must be done in Europe. Italy offered to help – thank you to the Ministry of Health for their support. Adam is now on his way for treatment, even though it was a bit delayed. Hopefully, he will recover and come back safe and sound.” 5. VARIOUS OF SEHER SHOWING INJURED ARM OF ADEM 6. AMBULANCE CARRYING ADEM DEPARTINGGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - JUNE 10: Adam Al-Najjar, the only surviving son of Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, was transferred to Italy for medical treatment on Tuesday, June 10, following an Israeli airstrike that killed his father, Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar, and nine siblings on May 24. Adam, who sustained an injury to his left arm, is expected to travel first to Jerusalem and then to Milan for further care. His cousin, Seher Al-Najjar, shared an update on his condition. Adam recounted the harrowing attack to Anadolu: "A small rocket was fired at us… I saw the ring of fire. The second missile hit, and everything was destroyed—the whole house, my siblings… My father is a martyr. May Allah have mercy on him." Adam described his injuries: "The pain is very severe. The damage is in my left hand. There’s a problem with the nerves – I can’t feel my fingers. There’s still a lot of pain. The doctors said I need a graft surgery. This cannot be done in Gaza. It must be done in Europe." Seher Al-Najjar, praised Adam's resilience: "Adam is a brave boy, a hero, even though he lost his siblings – nine of them – and his father." She thanked Italian authorities and the Palestinian Health Ministry for facilitating his transfer. Palestinian pediatrician Alaa Al-Najjar was on duty at Nasser Medical Complex when she was presented with the charred bodies of her nine children, killed in an Israeli airstrike that struck their home. Her only surviving child, Adam, was injured in the same attack, along with her husband, Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar, who later died from his wounds. The Israeli military claimed it would investigate the drone strike that hit the Al-Najjar family home. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave. Writing by Aleyna Cil
