A motorcycle rider carried a giant umbrella during the rain to keep himself from getting wet.

Footage shows the motorist cruising along the slippery road while holding the pink parasol over his head in Surat Thani, Thailand, on February 24.

He was seen not wearing a helmet as he coasted along the pavement amid the downpour.

Estonian tourist Anastassia Morozova said: 'I just love how all the locals are handling torrential rain situations. Just calmly driving with a cafe umbrella.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
