This is the bizarre moment activists protested against 'patriarchy' with an odd display on the streets of Rome.

Four demonstrators from the movement Burn It All carried out the peaceful act of civil resistance in Flaminio Square on Tuesday, June 17, at around 8:45 am.

Three of the protesters tied themselves together using red yarn wrapped around their waists. Their arms and legs were bare, revealing names written on their skin, reportedly those of victims of femicide and transicide in Italy in 2025.

They walked slowly to the centre of the square, still connected by the red thread. Once there, they performed a die-in, lying on the ground as if dead.

After around two minutes, they rose one by one and explained the purpose of their non-violent demonstration.

They said: 'We are Burn It All and we are here for a non-violent action. We want to remember our siblings, victims of femicide and transicide since the beginning of 2025.

'Self-determination can also come from economic independence, but that remains a dream, as the Freedom Income does not function as it should.

'Freedom is the highest banner we can carry. We are here to remember our siblings who found death in seeking that freedom. For every murdered sibling, there will always be a movement striking back!'

Authorities said the activists left the square after approximately 10 minutes.

Reddito di Liberta, or the Freedom Income, is an Italian government assistance programme that provides financial support to women who are victims of domestic violence, helping them move towards safety and independence.
