Japan’s deepest station takes tourist 8 minutes to reach platform
A tourist filmed his journey to Japan's deepest train station and it took him over eight minutes just to reach the platform.
Adam Rifi, 31, visited Doai Station in Minakami, Gunma Prefecture, on 27 May 2025, during a two-month trip through Japan.
The station, nicknamed "Japan's Number One Mole Station" and is famous for being the deepest in the country."
Its northbound platform lies 70 metres underground and can only be accessed by walking down a long, winding tunnel and descending 462 steep steps.
Adam filmed himself walking down to the deserted platform - a journey that took more than eight minutes.
Adam, from Vienna, Austria, said: "I was really surprised to be the only person there."
"I found out about this station a long time ago from a Japanese travel magazine and always wanted to visit."
"The time it took to reach the bottom was crazy - over eight minutes!"
"It was fun seeing the little details they put into the station like benches along the way so you can rest and markers showing how many steps you've climbed."
