Policemen had a hilarious sky lantern fail when it fell straight into a pond after launching.

Footage shows the cops sending off the paper lantern with candle burning inside during the Loy Krathong lantern festival in Khon Kaen province, Thailand on November 27.

They offered prayers before releasing the floating lantern, with the object briefly hovering around seven feet in the air. However, it failed to take off farther and fell limp into the pond nearby.

The disappointed cops watched as their lantern became wet while a colleague could be heard laughing in the background.

Loy Krathong is an annual festival celebrated in Thailand and certain parts of Southeast Asia each November during the full moon. Its name means 'to float a basket'. People release the krathongs - small baskets made of leaves and banana trunks containing flowers, incense sticks and candles - onto rivers, ponds and canals while some fly lanterns into the sky.
