Jacksonville, United States - June 19, 2025 Late Wednesday night, a woman was found clinging to beams beneath the Hart Bridge, 141 feet above the St. Johns River. She had climbed over the railing in downtown Jacksonville and was in a state of distress. Patrol officers quickly shut down traffic and engaged the woman in conversation to keep her calm. They called for backup from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, the JSO Marine Unit, and the JSO SWAT team. SWAT officers, trained in high-angle rescues, rigged a rope and harness system from above. After continued efforts and words of reassurance, the woman agreed to put on the harness. More than two and a half hours after officers first arrived, she was safely pulled back onto the bridge. Officers showed compassion and patience throughout the ordeal. She was taken to a local hospital for care and support.
