Friends giggle as hair stands up from static electricity before storm
A group of friends giggled as their hair rose from static electricity moments before a storm struck.
Adelfa Maquiling and the others were viewing the scenery from a rooftop deck when the strands of their hair suddenly lifted upright in Manila, the Philippines.
Footage shows the women laughing at the bizarre phenomenon while pointing at their heads on June 21.
They eventually left the area and took shelter indoors.
Adelfa said: 'We were trying to guess the names of the buildings we could see from up there. Then suddenly, we started laughing because all our hair was standing up.
'We had an idea of what it meant, but to be sure, I looked it up and confirmed that it's actually a serious warning sign.'
A strong electrical charge in the air can trigger this phenomenon, causing hair to rise on end, a potential warning sign of an impending lightning strike.
Experts advise seeking shelter immediately, avoiding tall structures and metal objects, and moving to a safe, enclosed area.
The Philippines is currently experiencing its southwest monsoon season, with increased thunderstorms and heavy rainfall reported across Luzon and Visayas that begins in June and ends around October.
