This is the dramatic moment two fishermen were rescued by park rangers after their boat sank in rough seas in Thailand.

Massan and Peeraphat were fishing on their motorboat when a large wave struck them off the coast of Krabi on June 24.

The pair managed to call national park staff as their vessel began taking on water.

Park rangers arrived at the scene near Koh Poda island and found both men clinging onto plastic containers used as makeshift life preservers.

Footage shows personnel pulling them onto a rescue boat with a rope amid strong winds.

Chaiyapruek Weerawong, chief of Mu Koh Lanta National Park, said: 'At that time, the park ranger unit's speedboat had already been dispatched on patrol at Hat Noppharat Thara National Park.

'Our officers, Mr Phraiwan Phosri and Mr Wanwinai Kelantan, rushed to assist the two distressed individuals and safely brought them back to shore at the Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park pier.

'We would like to remind all fishermen to exercise greater caution when sailing or engaging in sea activities, especially during unstable weather or when strong wave warnings are in effect.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
