Passing ferry rescues fisherman from capsized boat during storm
This is the dramatic moment a ferry crew rescued a stranded fisherman standing on top of his capsized boat during a violent storm off the coast of southern Thailand.
The sailor was thrown into the ocean when the vessel was battered by swells and strong winds near the island of Koh Samui on Tuesday, June 25.
Reports said the captain of the Royal2, a high-speed passenger ferry operated by Lomprayah High Speed Ferries Company Limited, spotted the fisherman calling for help.
Without hesitation, the captain altered course to assist the lone fisherman, who was seen desperately perched on the hull of his overturned boat.
Dramatic footage captured the angler, identified by local media as Phongsaphan Bunmee, standing atop the capsized vessel, soaked and visibly panicked.
The crew quickly threw a lifebuoy into the churning water, allowing Phongsaphan to swim towards the ferry.
Once on deck, he expressed his gratitude before being safely returned to Laem Thuat Pier.
Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are currently at the start of their annual monsoon season, which brings soaring temperatures followed by intense rainstorms and unpredictable sea conditions.
In coastal and low-lying areas, underdeveloped infrastructure often struggles to cope, leading to flash floods and hazardous maritime conditions.
