A Chinese envoy to the UN on Wednesday urged the international community to enhance support and increase investment for peace, stability and prosperous development in Africa. Sun Lei, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, made the remarks at a UN General Assembly high-level thematic debate on peace and security in Africa and the future of peacekeeping operations. Noting that the African continent has generally maintained steady development, Sun emphasized the growing challenges to peace and security, urging greater international attention to these issues. Sun stated that it is essential to support Africa's capacity-building on maintaining peace, resolve African issues in the African way, eliminate conflicts, and actively implement UN Security Council resolutions on financial support for Africa. He emphasized that boosting African countries' development represents both the fundamental solution and most effective way to prevent conflicts, calling on international financial institutions to increase financing support to Africa. Sun added that peacekeeping operations should be better aligned with Africa's actual requirements. Shotlist: UN Headquarters, New York City - June 25, 2025: 1. Meeting in progress; 2.
