On June 28, in Danjiang Town, Leishan County, Guizhou Province, continuous heavy rainfall caused a mountainside behind two residential buildings to suddenly tear open. A torrent of mud and rocks surged down like a beast, crashing into the buildings.

The flash flood poured into the structures, causing severe damage in some areas. Ground-floor shops were instantly swallowed by mud, and windows and doors of lower-level apartments were shattered. Some residents were trapped on balconies, with floodwaters reaching waist height. Escape routes were blocked by debris, leaving them clinging desperately to railings, shouting for help.

Leishan County’s fire and rescue team quickly responded, using extension ladders in the pouring rain to build a “lifeline” and rescue those trapped one by one. After nearly an hour of intense effort, all stranded residents were successfully relocated to safety.
