Torrential rain swept various parts of southwest China's Sichuan Province starting June 28, prompting the evacuation of 72,866 residents from 07:00 on June 29 to 07:00 on June 30, according to the office of the Sichuan geological disaster prevention and control headquarters. In Bazhong City, many shops were flooded in the local economic development zone, where rainstorms also swept steel protection plates off some residential buildings. Firefighters used pumps to drain the floodwater from the shops and cleared the damaged steel protection plates away. The downpour also left some farmlands flooded in Bazhong City. In Zizhong County of Neijiang City, 1,132 residents were evacuated to safe places including hotels amid heavy rain, which caused a landslide that disrupted traffic on a village road. Local officials arranged machinery to remove the fallen rocks and mud. In Suining City, 393 residents were temporarily relocated due to heavy rainfalls.
