Wildlife staff use cherry picker crane to return fallen owl chick into nest
This is the heartwarming moment wildlife staff returned a fallen owlet into its nest using a cherry picker.
National Parks Board (NParks) workers were alerted to the hapless owlet that was knocked off its nest by an early morning thunderstorm at the Hampstead Wetlands Park in Singapore, on June 23.
Officers arrived at the scene, where they found the newborn Buffy fish owl on the ground covered in ants after its home was ruined by strong winds. They placed it in a perforated container with nesting materials before arranging for a cherry picker to return the owl chick back into the tree.
Footage shows one staff member riding the cherry picker basket as he held the container with the owl chick in his hand. He placed the artificial nest onto the tree as the mother owl watched warily from a distance.
Onlooker David Tan said: 'The timely rescue by NParks, with the assistance of a commercial crane. Both parents of the owl chick watched intently at the entire operation. The female Buffy Fish Owl flew back to the makeshift nest instantly. Hoping for a speedy recovery to the baby owl.'
The mother owl was later seen nestling with her chick in their new nest.
The Buffy Fish Owl is a large bird of prey native to Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking yellow eyes, prominent ear tufts, and brown buffy plumage. It inhabits forests near water bodies and feeds on fish, frogs, and small mammals.
