Residents battle vehicle fire on roadside in Indonesia
Residents scrambled to battle a vehicle fire on a roadside in Indonesia.
The vehicle's driver, Isak, had stationed the red Toyota Kijang while unloading goods he planned to sell in Palawa Village, Sesean District, South Sulawesi.
When he returned, he was shocked to find the parked truck engulfed in flames at around 10:20 am local time on June 30.
Isak rushed to the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire, with locals quickly stepping in to help, some evacuating nearby parked motorcycles.
First Police Inspector Anton Tonapa, Head of the Sesean Sector Police, said: 'Sesean Police personnel who were temporarily controlling traffic flow around the incident location immediately moved other vehicles that were temporarily parked near the burning car and extinguished the fire using a light fire extinguisher.'
The blaze was fully doused approximately 10 minutes later.
Reports said Isak had been smoking a cigarette while unloading. Flammable goods and tarpaulin were stored on top of the vehicle.
Police added: 'It is currently suspected that the cause of the car fire came from a cigarette that fell while picking up the goods in his car. There were no fatalities in this incident.'
The estimated financial loss is approximately 127,374 GBP.
