POLICE WAITING NEAR PROTESTING AREA PARIS, FRANCE - JULY 5: Thousands of people took to the streets of the French capital Saturday, July 5, to protest Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip, calling for an end to genocide against Palestinians. Responding to a call by associations supporting Palestine, demonstrators gathered at the symbolic Place de la République, waving Palestinian flags and wearing keffiyehs. Chanting slogans such as "Resistance from Paris to Gaza," the crowd marched to the iconic Place de la Bastille, demanding an immediate ceasefire and justice for the people of Gaza. Some participants wore earrings and carried bags featuring watermelon motifs — a symbol of Palestinian identity — in a show of solidarity. Others held banners and placards urging an end to the blockade on Gaza and calling for unrestricted humanitarian access to the besieged enclave. Protesters also denounced the killing of Palestinian journalists in Israeli airstrikes, and called for a boycott of companies that support or do business with Israel. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a genocidal war on Gaza, killing more than 57,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Reporting by Umit Donmez // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
