HEARTBREAKING JOURNEY OF A MOTHER ELEPHANT IN KAUDULLA NATIONAL PARK
n a profound display of parental love, an elephant in Kaudulla National Park has been observed carrying her deceased calf for several kilometres, highlighting that the immense bond of a parent is not exclusive to humans but extends profoundly into the animal kingdom.
It is universally acknowledged that the loss of a loved one is a deeply sorrowful experience for both humans and wild animals. Wild animals, particularly intelligent and social creatures like elephants, are known for their strong family bonds and high levels of empathy.
They often spend hours, or even days, by the side of a deceased offspring, touching and attempting to revive them.
This poignant incident, captured by the Habarana Hiru correspondent, shows a distressed mother elephant carrying her calf, which wildlife officials at Kaudulla National Park believe was stillborn.
The elephant has been walking through the jungle for days with her trunk wrapped around her lifeless calf.
This mother elephant's heartbreaking journey serves as a powerful message to the world, reminding us that the pain of loss and boundless parental affection resonate deeply within the animal kingdom, just as they do in the human world.
