Germany: Protesting Gaza genocide, activists splash red paint on German Chancellery
SHOTLIST: BERLIN, GERMANY (JULY 7, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF RED PAINT SMEARED ON GERMAN CHANCELLERY BUILDING / PROTESTER WHO SMEARS PAINT BEING DETAINED BY POLICE BERLIN, GERMANY - JULY 7: Pro-Palestinian activists splashed red paint on the white facade of the German Chancellery building on Monday, protesting what they described as Germany's complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Two activists from the New Generation movement spread bright red paint with their hands across the building, then staged a sit-in protest with banners reading "The dirty work is bloody" and "Stop genocide – no German complicity." Police officers responsible for guarding the Chancellery immediately apprehended the activists. Berlin police later took them into custody for violating Berlin's assembly laws, authorities said. Fabian Beese, 26, identified as one of the protesters, explained his motivation: "It breaks my heart to see people dying in the Gaza Strip every day – children, women, families. The fact that our government supports this leaves me speechless." He specifically cited comments made by Chancellor Friedrich Merz last month in an interview describing Israeli military actions against Iran as "dirty work for all of us." “Germany continues to supply weapons, even though the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza is growing every day. Politicians like Friedrich Merz talk about 'dirty work,' but not about the reality behind it: destruction, blood, and death,” Beese said. He stressed that their group demands an immediate halt to German arms exports to Israel.
