Spain: Eight Mountain Rescues In Two Days Shake The Pyrenees
Huesca, Spain - July 07, 2025 An intense start to the week in the Pyrenees left multiple hikers and climbers injured after a series of mountain accidents prompted eight rescue operations in just two days. On Monday, July 7, Guardia Civil rescue teams were dispatched to aid a hiker from Mollet del Vallés, Barcelona. She had fallen on the descent from Garmo Negro in Panticosa, sustaining a mild head injury. She was evacuated by helicopter. On Tuesday, July 8, seven more rescues unfolded across the Aragonese Pyrenees. In Bierge, a 42-year-old canyoner from Argentona, Barcelona, was airlifted to Hospital San Jorge in Huesca after a suspected ankle fracture on the Barranco Peonera Inferior trail. In Ansó, a 43-year-old woman suffered a suspected fibula fracture after falling on Pico Los Tres Reyes. She was taken to the hospital in Jaca. A 53-year-old man from Huesca sustained a mild rib injury while hiking the GR11 route in the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park in Sahún. In Las Peñas de Riglos, a 31-year-old Italian climber suffered fractures in both ankles following a fall during a multi-pitch climb and was evacuated. A 12-year-old girl suffered a severe head injury in Aigüeta de la Vall and was transported to Hospital de Barbastro. Two hikers in the Posets-Maladeta Park were also assisted. One had a mild head injury while the other had no injuries. In Arén, a 34-year-old woman with a dislocated ankle was rescued from Barranco de la Plana and transferred to Catalonia’s emergency system. A 45-year-old cyclist was injured in a fall in Castiello de Jaca and was admitted to the local hospital with a rib trauma. Authorities are urging caution in mountainous areas and reminding the public to follow all safety recommendations to prevent further incidents.
