Los Angeles, United States - July 12, 2025 07/12/2025 03:12 am GMT-0700 WESTCHESTER, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Authorities in West Los Angeles responded to a report of a traffic collision on the southbound 405 Freeway, just south of Jefferson Boulevard. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived at the scene and located an off-duty Santa Monica Police Officer trapped inside a Ford Explorer. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was requested to assist in extricating the officer. Firefighters arrived quickly and freed the officer, who was then transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. Investigators learned that a silver sedan had apparently rear-ended the police vehicle. Officers tested the driver of the sedan for DUI and subsequently detained him, as he appeared to be under the influence. He was transported to the station for further evaluation. During the investigation of the crash, a black Chevy SUV drove through the scene. Officers stopped the driver and ordered him out of the vehicle. It was determined that this man was also under the influence, and he was detained as well. The CHP West Los Angeles Area office is handling the investigation of the crash.
