INTERVIEW WITH RELEASED FEMALE DETAINEE MOZA MUHAMMED MUSLAH HASANGAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 17: Israel on Thursday, July 17, released nine Palestinians, including two women, months after detaining them during its military offensive in the blockaded Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Hamas-run Prisoners' Media Office. The statement said the released Palestinians were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah. No details were provided about their health conditions. Eyewitnesses said the Israeli military released the detainees at the Kissufim crossing east of Deir al-Balah. They were then transported to the hospital in buses and vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross. Since launching its assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel has periodically released Palestinians it detained in the enclave. Previously released detainees have reported suffering “severe physical torture,” malnutrition and untreated injuries during their imprisonment in Israeli facilities. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since late October 2023, killing nearly 58,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and the spread of diseases. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
