A second night of protests erupted outside the Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf, where asylum seekers are reportedly due to be housed. Police maintained a heavy presence as anti-migrant protesters and counter-demonstrators from Stand Up To Racism faced off across the street.

The renewed protest comes amid rising tensions following violent unrest in Epping, where another hotel is believed to be housing migrants. Essex Police have charged five men with violent disorder and issued dispersal orders to prevent further disturbances. MP Apsana Begum said refugees are welcome in the area and condemned the far right, while Reform UK’s Lee Anderson criticised the government’s handling of the situation in a video from the scene. Police say the cost of managing the Epping protests has already passed £100,000.
