This is the stunning moment a rainbow formed over lava fountains as Kilauea volcano erupted in Hawaii.

Dramatic footage captured the colourful arc stretching just above the summit's fiery outburst on July 20.

Authorities said the incident took place during episode 29 of the eruption.

Lava fountains during the event reached heights of up to 330ft, with the episode lasting more than 13 hours.

On July 9, a tornado also formed over Kilauea, swirling dramatically as molten rocks erupted just yards away.

This eruption, which began on December 23 of the previous year, follows a pattern of brief, explosive episodes—each lasting around 13 hours, separated by pauses ranging from one day to nearly two weeks.

Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
