Heavy rain causes raging floods in Hong Kong
Heavy rain triggered raging floods across Hong Kong, causing widespread disruption throughout the region.
Footage shows torrents of floodwater sweeping through Nanshan Village in Sai Kung on Tuesday, August 5.
The Hong Kong Observatory reported that parts of the city had received up to 350 mm of rain by 2:15 pm local time, marking the highest daily rainfall for August since 1884.
The freak weather also disrupted operations at Hong Kong International Airport, causing delays for cargo flights and the cancellation of 11 services.
Authorities issued a black rainstorm warning for the second time within six hours on Tuesday, as heavy downpours led to flash floods, interrupted public services, and forced schools to suspend classes.
