This is the spectacular moment Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano spewed lava in its latest eruption.

Footage shows the volcano gushing bright red molten lava in East Nusa Tenggara on the evening of August 1.

Flashes of lightning and thunderous sounds were seen and heard by villagers, adding to the eerie atmosphere at 8:48 p.m. local time.

Volcanic ash was spewed as high as 10 kilometers, billowing from the summit.

Emanuel Rofinus Bere, a monitoring officer, said: 'A thick column of ash was ejected to the west and northwest. The eruption had a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and lasted approximately 3 minutes and 40 seconds.'

The alert level for this 1,584-meter-high mountain has been steadily increasing over the past few weeks.

Authorities advised locals and visitors not to enter the area within a 6-kilometer radius, as well as the southwest to northeast sector within a 7-kilometer radius of the eruption epicenter.

Emanuel also urged the public to be aware of the potential for rain-induced lava flooding in rivers originating from the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, explained that there has been volcanic and non-harmonic earthquake activity at volcano.

'This indicates that magma activity is still strong at shallow depths near the surface.'

Mount Lewotobi has experienced one eruption earthquake, 19 non-harmonic tremor earthquakes, one low-frequency earthquake, one deep volcanic earthquake, four local tectonic earthquakes, and three distant tectonic earthquakes over the past two days.

On May 19, the volcano erupted, spewing bright orange lava that scorched its slopes accompanied by a loud bang.

The volcano is located on Flores Island, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire—a region known for its high seismic and volcanic activity due to tectonic plate movements.
