This is the shocking moment scaffolding collapses under fierce winds during a typhoon onslaught in Hong Kong.

Dramatic footage shows the temporary structure tearing away from the exterior wall of a high-rise building in North Point on July 20, as Typhoon Wipha lashed the city with powerful gusts.

The support frame reportedly crashed onto several vehicles in a car park before making a loud noise that stunned nearby residents.

An onlooker said: 'Luckily, there were no people in there! The wind was so strong!'

Firefighters were deployed to clear the fallen scaffolding from the area.

The Hong Kong Observatory raised the T10 storm signal at 9:20 am on Sunday, the first time the highest storm warning has been issued since September 2023.

In neighbouring Vietnam, a tourist boat was capsized by the storm, leaving dozens of passengers dead on Saturday. The vessel reportedly overturned after being hit by choppy waves and heavy rain off the coast of Ha Long Bay shortly after 2 pm local time.

Wipha has been downgraded to a tropical storm after hitting mainland China on July 20.
