This is the dramatic moment police captured a suspect during an axe rampage in northeast Thailand.

Thongdaeng Nongthing, 53, sparked alarm when he barged into a police station while wielding the weapon, on the morning of January 13.

Officers tried to calm him down but he reportedly rushed out screaming on the streets of Udon Thani province, sending terrified residents fleeing as he brandished an axe and knife.

Footage shows cops in riot gear standing off against the rampaging suspect.

When they ordered him to lay down his weapons, he suddenly charged at them before they fired rubber bullets to subdue him.

Thongdaeng was knocked to the ground and pinned down with Y-shaped metal poles.

Police said there were no injuries.

Thongdaeng was taken to Nong Saeng Hospital for treatment before being handed over to the inquiry officer for legal proceedings.

A Nong Saeng Police Station spokesman said: ‘There was no issue about using taser guns mentioned in the news.

‘Nong Saeng Police Station has already received taser guns. However, officers assessed the situation and found that the suspect was wearing a thick jacket which would render taser guns ineffective, so they used rubber bullets and fork sticks instead.'
