Plane crashes in Indonesia killing Air Force General
A plane crashed in Indonesia, killing an Air Force general and seriously injuring another.
The Microlight Fixed-Wing Quicksilver GT500 training aircraft, with registration PK-S126, went down in the Astana Public Cemetery (TPU) in Ciampea subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java province, on Sunday, August 3.
The aircraft was operated by the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation and was piloted by former Indonesian Air Force spokesman Fajar Adriyanto, with civilian Roni Ahmad acting as co-pilot.
The plane departed from Atang Sendjaja Airstrip at 9:08 am local time and lost contact approximately 11 minutes later.
Adriyanto was killed in the incident, while Ahmad suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital.
TNI Air Force Information Service head, TNI First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana, said: 'TNI First Marshal Fajar died in this incident. This activity was part of routine training to develop the capabilities of personnel under the guidance of the TNI (Indonesian National Army) Air Force.'
He added that emergency services and relevant authorities secured the site and ensured that all standard procedures were followed during the response.
Footage shows the aircraft plunging into a field, with a later clip revealing residents at the crash area.
Officials said that the plane was deemed airworthy before takeoff. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the incident.
