This is the terrifying moment seamen braved a violent storm while onboard a tanker ship.

Footage shows the crew working on the deck as heavy rain lashed the vessel sailing off the coast of Romblon, the Philippines, on July 24.

It was dark and windy, with strong gusts driving sheets of rain across the deck while the workers secured loose equipment.

One crew member stood at the bow of the ship holding a radio, desperately trying to get a signal to report the severe weather.

Crew member Dawe said: ‘That is our life as seafarers. It is normal to encounter storms like that out at sea.'

The Philippines was pummeled by a trio of successive cyclones - Typhoons Wipha and Co-may and Tropical Storm Emong - in recent weeks.

The country and its neighbours in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
