GAZA, PALESTINE - AUGUST 5: At least 53 Palestinians, including 29 people waiting for humanitarian aid, were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to local medical sources.
The latest violence occurred near the "Zikim" area, west of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, where Israeli forces opened fire on civilians gathering for aid, killing 10 and wounding others. This incident raised the day's death toll to 20 in the region.
Earlier, three Palestinians were killed in an airstrike targeting a mourning house in Khan Younis, while five others died when displacement tents in the Al-Mawasi area were struck.
In central Gaza, two Palestinians, including a woman, were killed in an attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Since May 27, Israel has been coordinating aid deliveries through so-called"Gaza Humanitarian Relief Foundation," a body not recognized by the United Nations.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 1,568 Palestinians have been killed and over 11,230 injured in attacks on aid distribution points since the alternative mechanism began.
Six Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid were killed in an Israeli strike that targeted their gathering near a distribution center at the Netzarim Corridor in the central Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children. Israel’s military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has repeatedly called for an end to military operations, but Israel, backed by the U.S., continues its campaign, which critics describe as involving collective punishment and forced starvation.
