Chinese rocket launch explosion leaves trails across sky in the Philippines
A Chinese rocket launch explosion left trails across the sky in the Philippines.
Footage shows a smoke streak consistent with rocket exhaust above the horizon in eastern Palawan on August 5.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that a series of five loud explosions was heard from the east, matching a scheduled launch from the Hainan International Commercial Launch Centre.
China's Long March 12 rocket was launched between 6:14 pm and 6:42 pm.
PCG identified multiple drop zones for rocket debris within Philippine waters. Despite the impressive display and booming sounds, no immediate threats to safety or navigation have been reported.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, prioritising maritime safety and environmental protection.
Space colonisation efforts have gained momentum in recent years, driven by both private enterprises - like Elon Musk's SpaceX - and governments aiming to establish permanent habitats beyond Earth. This includes the strategic use of Earth's orbit for satellites and other space infrastructure.
At its core, space colonisation envisions creating self-sustaining communities on other planets, moons, or within space stations. Supporters claim the ultimate goal is to expand humanity's presence in space, ensuring long-term survival and reducing dependence on Earth.
