Indonesia’s Mount Marapi spews massive ash column
WEST SUMATRA, INDONESIA - AUGUST 12, 2025: Mount Marapi, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, sent a column of ash soaring about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) into the sky during a fresh eruption in West Sumatra’s Tanah Datar District on Monday, August 12.
Authorities said the volcano has erupted more than 460 times since its major outburst on December 3, 2023. Residents are barred from entering or carrying out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the crater.
