Tarifa, Spain - August 11, 2025 Tarifa, Spain – A towering plume of smoke from a fierce wildfire at the Paraje "Cueva del Moro," between Playa de Bolonia and Atlanterra, darkens the skies. The smoke stretches all the way to Playa del Carmen in Zahara de los Atunes, revealing the fire’s immense scale. Amid this dramatic environmental threat, beachgoers remain undeterred. Swimmers and visitors continue to enjoy the water and sunshine, seemingly unfazed by the raging fire just beyond the shore. This striking contrast between calm recreation and a spreading wildfire highlights the intensity of Spain’s worst fire season in years. Nearly 4,800 wildfires have scorched the country this year, exceeding the ten-year average for large fires. The new blaze follows closely after another major fire in Tarifa that was recently declared extinguished. Rafael APP Smart Tourism, who filmed the scene, said: “New fire in Tarifa, located in the Paraje ‘Cueva del Moro’ between Playa de Bolonia and Atlanterra. This is how impressive the smoke column looks from Playa del Carmen in Zahara de los Atunes.”
