Al-Dabbeh’s body was received at Al-Shifa Hospital, where funeral prayers were held before his family buried him in an emotional ceremony. His death highlights the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in the enclave, where starvation and disease are spreading due to severe food and medical shortages. In the past 24 hours alone, 11 people, including a child, have died from starvation in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The total number of hunger-related deaths in the territory has now reached 251. The ministry also warned that 40,000 infants in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition due to Israel’s blockade and restrictions on humanitarian aid. Hospitals, already overwhelmed by casualties from Israel’s military offensive, are struggling to treat patients amid acute shortages of medicine and food. The director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City stated that the lives of more than 200 patients are at risk due to malnutrition and lack of medical supplies. The facility, once Gaza’s largest hospital, has been severely damaged by Israeli attacks and is operating with minimal resources. Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed nearly 61,900 Palestinians, according to local authorities, and reduced much of the territory to ruins. The war has pushed Gaza to the brink of famine, with aid agencies warning of catastrophic hunger. In November 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military actions in the enclave. South Africa, which brought the case, accuses Israel of violating the Genocide Convention, a claim Israel strongly denies. Writing by Sibel Uygun
