At around 9:50 p.m. on 15 August, the site of the 14th Beer Festival hosted by Qiankun Group in Mianzhu, Sichuan, was hit by severe convective weather. Gale-force winds and heavy rain damaged the canopy above the audience area, causing the truss structure to collapse and fall onto people sheltering from the rain.

The accident tragically resulted in 2 deaths and 3 serious injuries - none life-threatening.

Following the incident, Mianzhu City immediately organised emergency rescue, medical treatment and follow-up support. Deyang City also set up an investigation team to carry out an upgraded inquiry into the cause of the incident.

At present, the cause is still under further investigation, with initial findings suggesting a link to the extreme convective weather.
