He was briefed on current operations, the deployment of drones and robotic systems for targeting and supply delivery, and upgraded counter-drone measures.

Belousov also met with unit commanders and observed equipment modernization based on combat experience.

Intense diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump to mediate a settlement for the nearly 3 1/2-year long Russia-Ukraine war are ongoing.

These efforts included a key summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, and the subsequent meeting in the Oval Office on Monday between Trump, Zelenskyy, and European leaders.

Russia started its "special military operation" on Feb. 24, 2022 and claimed that it is aimed at protecting people in the eastern region of Ukraine.
