World’s largest maritime festival draws millions to Dutch capital

Thousands of historic and modern vessels gathered in Amsterdam’s harbor, drawing both local and international spectators.
The grand finale, known as the SAIL-Out Parade, saw ships of all sizes depart the city’s waterways in a colorful spectacle.
Organizers said the event ran smoothly despite the massive crowds, noting that “with so many ships on the water, things went surprisingly well.”
Since its inception in 1975, SAIL Amsterdam has grown into one of the Netherlands’ most iconic cultural and maritime festivals, held once every five years.
