7. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) OFFICIAL SPOKESMAN FOR THE CIVIL DEFENSE IN THE GAZA STRIP, MAHMOUD BASAL, SAYING:
“Israeli occupation forces targeted a residential square in the Zeitoun neighborhood. This targeting led to the destruction of a number of homes and also targeted the Six Sigma warehouse (sanitaryware or plastic products) that contained medical supplies. The warehouse held plastic materials and flammable items, causing the area to catch fire. Our crews have been working continuously, perhaps for three consecutive hours now, to extinguish the fire that broke out as a result of this targeting. The available capabilities are very modest and are not up to the task of dealing with this incident. Until now, the crews are trying to complete this task to prevent the fire from spreading to the poor or surrounding homes in this area. We say this to the Israeli occupation: until now, they are committing great tyranny and operations of shelling, killing, demolition, and destruction in the Zeitoun area and Gaza City, which has seen hundreds, even thousands, of homes destroyed as a result of these Israeli airstrikes. And even at this moment, the bombing operations are still ongoing."

GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUGUST 29: Israeli warplanes struck a warehouse in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood on Friday, August 29, igniting a large fire that civil defense crews struggled to contain amid limited capabilities.
The strike targeted the "Six Sigma" warehouse, a facility described by local sources as containing sanitary and plumbing products. The attack led to a significant blaze, with large columns of smoke visible throughout the area.
Mahmoud Basal, the official spokesman for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, told Anadolu that the warehouse also held flammable materials and medical supplies, which contributed to the intensity of the fire.
"Our crews have been working continuously, perhaps for three consecutive hours now, to extinguish the fire that broke out as a result of this targeting," Basal said. "The available capabilities are very modest and are not up to the task of dealing with this incident."
Basal added that the airstrike also destroyed a number of homes in a residential square in the Zeitoun neighborhood. He accused Israeli forces of committing "great tyranny" with ongoing bombing operations in Gaza City that have destroyed "hundreds, even thousands, of homes."
The strike is part of a continued Israeli military offensive across the Gaza Strip. According to medical sources, the overall death toll in the enclave has reached 63,025 since the conflict began in October 2023, with the majority reported to be women and children. At least 159,490 others have been injured.
These figures are considered incomplete, as many victims are believed to be trapped under rubble, beyond the reach of rescue teams.
Furthermore, since the breakdown of a ceasefire and the resumption of intense hostilities on March 18, 2025, at least 11,178 civilians have been killed and 47,449 injured, medical sources confirmed.
