Laos received its second Chinese aircraft from its neighbouring Communist superpower.

National carrier Lao Airlines added a C909 jet to its fleet on Monday, September 1, with officials saying it is set to begin commercial flights the following day.

The new plane seats 89 passengers, including four in business class and 85 in economy.

Local media said the new aircraft will fly to Laos' Houaphanh Province, Bangkok, and other regional and domestic destinations.

Footage shows the plane touching down on the tarmac, with the pilots waving the flags of China and Laos after coming to a stop.

The national carrier received its first C909 aircraft from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) on March 31, with the plane entering service on April 12.

Both jets were leased from COMAC, a state-owned aerospace manufacturer in China, under a strategic agreement.

The COMAC C909, formerly known as the ARJ21, is a regional jet designed to carry up to 90 passengers. It is China's first jet-powered aircraft to enter commercial production, having begun service in 2016.
