The humanitarian crisis has worsened significantly since Israel blocked all aid from entering the territory on March 2, shortly before resuming its military campaign following the collapse of a ceasefire. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, a charity organization distributed hot meals in Gaza City, northern Gaza, for displaced Palestinians. Those unable to access basic food supplies waited in line for hours under the sun for a single bowl of food. The restriction of aid entering the region by air and land by Israel is preventing a resolution to the severe hunger crisis. The situation has reached a catastrophic level, with officials reporting a sharp rise in deaths from malnutrition and starvation. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, six more Palestinians, including one child, died of malnutrition in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of famine-related deaths since October 2023 to 367, a grim tally that includes 131 children. The overall Palestinian death toll from Israel's military campaign has now reached 63,746. The situation is particularly dire for children. UN officials report that between 15-20% of screened children are malnourished, a figure far exceeding emergency thresholds. More than 110 children have already succumbed to hunger, with over half of those deaths occurring this year. Tragically, the act of seeking aid has itself become deadly. The Health Ministry reported that 33 Palestinians were killed and over 141 injured by Israeli fire while trying to access humanitarian aid in the last 24 hours. Since May, a total of 2,339 Palestinians have been killed and over 17,070 wounded under such circumstances. Writing by Sibel Uygun
