United States - September 01, 2025 Eastern Washington – On Sept. 1, a 302nd Airlift Wing C-130, callsign MAFFS 5, released fire retardant just ahead of the Rattlesnake Fire. The video, filmed from inside the aircraft cabin, records the dramatic moment as the tank discharges its load. "Listen for the WHOOSH!" The powerful whoosh is produced by the air-pressurized MAFFS tank forcing the retardant from the aircraft. MAFFS has the capacity to expel 3,000 gallons in less than five seconds.
