Elephant seals fight for territory in California
Two male elephant seals were seen fighting for territory at a state park in California.
Footage shows the massive marine animals opening their mouths wide and trying to intimidate each other at Hearst San Simeon State Park in San Simeon.
The pair emitted loud bellows during the battle for dominance, surrounded by other seals huddled nearby.
Elephant seals are among the largest marine mammals, with males growing up to 16 ft (5m) and weighing as much as 5,000 pounds.
Their size, along with their inflatable proboscis used for loud breeding calls, helps them establish dominance and attract females, which are smaller, averaging up to 12ft (4m) and 1,800 pounds.
