Drivers capture rare shelf cloud looming over highway in Tennessee
A driver captured a rare shelf cloud looming over a highway in Tennessee.
Footage shows a large, low-hanging formation stretching across the sky as seen from Carter County, Elizabethton, on September 5.
The underside of the mass appeared dark and heavy appearing to signal a storm.
Motorist April said: ‘Anyone who knows me knows I'm a weather nerd, such a nerd that my husband had to share this impressive shelf cloud on his commute, whatcha think.'
Shelf clouds are commonly linked to squall lines and often signal the potential for severe, damaging winds.
